menaswell launches ambassador programme

MenAsWell is launching a new Ambassador Programme, aimed at empowering members of the gbMSM community to become peer mentors and public representatives. This programme is designed to provide culturally competent support to male+ survivors of sexual violence and help raise awareness through outreach and educational activities.

As a MenAsWell Ambassador, you will undergo a comprehensive three-day training that will equip you with the skills needed to provide peer support and represent the organization in various capacities. This volunteer role is ideal for individuals passionate about making a difference in their community, particularly those with lived experience of sexual violence or those who are motivated to support others through their recovery journey.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Represent MenAsWell in outreach, media, and educational activities.

  • Where relevant, share your story in an educational and inspiring manner to empower other survivors and raise awareness about male+ sexual violence.

  • Engage with the community and help promote MenAsWell’s mission through various platforms and events.

Training:

Ambassadors will undergo a comprehensive training programme that covers key topics such as:

  • Consent and sexual violence among male+ victims

  • Challenges for LGBTQ+ newcomers

  • Queer landscapes and community dynamics

  • Media training and storytelling

  • Motivational interviewing skills

Requirements:

  • Open to individuals with an interest in supporting the LGBTQIA+ community through issues related to sexual violence.

  • Previous voluntary experience or work with vulnerable populations is desirable but not required.

  • Lived experience of sexual violence is not mandatory; however, a commitment to using your experiences or passion to help others is essential.

Application Process:

If you are interested in becoming a MenAsWell Ambassador and making a meaningful impact in your community, please contact Michael@menaswell.nl before end of September 2024.
